In 2022, RHPPM successfully won a competitive tender against leading UK and European engineering and lift consultancy firms to deliver technical consultancy and Lift and Escalator package management services for the Old Oak Common Station, which is part of the HS2 project in the UK. As the first of four HS2 stations to be delivered, Old Oak Common establishes the benchmark for lift and escalator assurance, management and delivery and coordination of interfacing structures and systems across the wider programme. RHPPM’s work in developing and implementing assurance strategies and deliverables and design coordination methodologies is therefore setting the standard for subsequent stations.

The Challenge

The Old Oak Common Station project, as the first station on the HS2 programme, presents a highly complex delivery environment involving a large volume of lift and escalator assets (52 lifts and 42 escalators) integrated within a major, multidisciplinary infrastructure scheme. The need to align architectural design, structural works, and MEP systems with strict compliance requirements creates significant coordination challenges. Additionally, as a benchmark project for subsequent HS2 stations, there is a critical requirement to establish robust assurance processes and standards from the outset, while protecting programme and mitigating future risks.

RHPPM are “embedded” in the Project MEP delivery team structure. Our engagement in the project has been early enough to guide and correct design with respect to not only Lifts and Escalators but the building structures and system interfaces as well. We proud to be a key component in the wider delivery team for the project.

HS2 Old Oak Common Station project

RHPPM was appointed, following a competitive tender, to deliver technical consultancy and lift and escalator package management services for Old Oak Common Station—HS2’s first station and a benchmark for the wider programme. The project involves a highly complex environment, with a large number of assets integrated across architectural, structural, and MEP systems, alongside the need to establish robust assurance standards from the outset while managing risk and programme constraints.

Through early and embedded involvement within the MEP delivery team, RHPPM is providing technical leadership, design coordination, and comprehensive assurance strategies.
